KitchenAid Food Processor: Chopping Onions

For my birthday this year, my husband got me a KitchenAid Food Processor. I have never had one before, so I really had no idea what was so great about them. As time goes on, I find myself finding more and more ways to use and enjoy my birthday gift. Below is how I use it to chop onions so I can freeze them for quick and easy food prep.

What you will need:

  • Food Processor
  • Onions
  • Freezer Ziploc bags

Step 1

I have found that using the multipurpose blade gets the onions to a consistency that I like. I prefer my onions to be chopped very fine. I’m the type of person that likes the taste, but not the texture.

Step 2

Chop the bottom and top of the onion off. Then chop into quarters and remove the outside skin. Place onions in food processor.

Step 3

Press the “Pulse” button on your food processor until you get the desired texture for your onions. Once you they are chopped up enough then you can remove the blade and put the onions in Ziploc bags. I would recommend using a spatula to spoon them out because they are sticky and it’s hard to get all of them out of the bowl.

Step 4

Once you have all the onions in the Ziploc bags, lay the bags flat and freeze them. Laying them flat like this will allow you to easily break off frozen chunks of onions for future use.
